Quick Lentil Bolognese Spaghetti

Spaghetti tossed with canned lentils simmered in jarred marinara for a quick, Italian-inspired dinner. Finish with vegetarian Parmesan if desired.

Cover the large pot and bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.

Use caution around boiling water and hot steam, especially when removing the lid.

Keep the large pot handle turned inward to prevent accidental spills.

While the water heats, place the lentils in the colander, rinse under cool water, and drain well. Measure the remaining ingredients.

Cook the spaghetti

When the water boils, stir in the salt, add the spaghetti, and cook until al dente, about 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the spaghetti carefully to the boiling water to avoid splashes.

As soon as the spaghetti begins cooking, combine the marinara, lentils, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and black pepper in the saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then simmer uncovered for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Before draining the spaghetti, reserve 1/2 cup pasta water. Drain the spaghetti carefully without rinsing it.

Drain the spaghetti slowly, directing steam away from your face and hands.
